Ordinary Membership of the Association is available to persons holding the appointment of Cathedral
Architect or Surveyor to the Fabric (acting as the principal advisor in relation to the care of the fabric, for a
minimum appointment period of five years) to a Cathedral church of any denomination (or equivalent
peculiars) within the United Kingdom.
For the purposes of membership, the definition of a Cathedral is at the discretion of the Association’s Steering Group. Election to Ordinary Membership of the Association will be confirmed at the Annual General Meeting of the Association following the member’s appointment as a Cathedral Architect.
If an Ordinary member is no longer acting as a Cathedral Architect, but they have served at least five years in this role and remain in practice, at the Steering Group’s discretion, they can opt to remain as an Ordinary member or become an Associate member.
Associate Membership of the Association can be offered, at the Association Steering Group’s discretion, to architects for Cathedral churches overseas, to former Cathedral Architects still in practice and to architects for other buildings, including architects to former abbey, priory and collegiate churches, or major churches in parochial use, where the maintenance of structural problems of the churches are comparable with those of cathedral churches. Associate membership can also be extended to those architects who assist Cathedral Architects or are their appointed deputies, and to others, whether from the United Kingdom or elsewhere, whose work and interests would make such membership of mutual benefit.
Retired Members of the Association are former Ordinary Members or Associate Members who have retired from remunerative practice and who wish to continue to support the Association.
The Association is a corporate member of the Heritage Alliance and also supports other heritage and partner organisations in the knowledge and advancement of matters related to cathedrals and their heritage..
